AWESOME! The flying fortress is one of my favorite planes of ww2. We owe a debt to the men and women who flew, and worked on the ground, in the face of death to defend the world against a tyrant bent on world conquest.

Great pics, I can almost HEAR them!

They cooked with grapevine trimmings (Ohio still had a great number of grape vine woods, although the number was severely declining) and made grapevine charcoal for later. Campfires smoked far less, and were much smaller than they are now. They were still wrapping food in coltsfoot or grave vine leaves. If you want to see what upstart grapevine woods look like, most parks have them now. The curlies are no longer 3 or 4 feet at the base, more like 18 inches. They are also colonizing the honeysuckle hedges in places. I saw some growing along a chainlink fence, surrounding what was once the biggest spring in the world. It is on Nelson Road, across from Sutherland Lumber

So is it always the day before (or two days before) the Circus starts? What time of day?

I keep missing it and want to try to take my 4 year old to see it this year!

It is a shame that NASA couldn't put one of the orbiters here in the midwest, instead opting to have all of them go to the country's extremes (3 to the east coast and 1 on the west). Not only is Ohio within 500 miles of the majority of people in the country, it was home to the first men to actually fly a heavier than air machine, home to the first American to orbit the earth, the oldest man to ever fly in a shuttle, and home to the first man to step foot on the moon. The Air Force Museum in Dayton is FREE to anyone visiting the massive facility.

We tried to make the evening carriage parade in Lebanon, but got caught up in snow squalls coming down I-71 that also produced a few accidents. That chain of events forced us into Lebanon a little later than we had hoped, and parking was extremely difficult to find. Regretfully, we only got to see about the last 5 carriages. Next year, we must allow plenty of time!
