Wendy-Style Chili

The following recipe is very close to Dave Thomas' original chili recipe. Although the results give a slightly thicker chili, and slightly more spicier than what is available today from Wendy's. Try it yourself and compare the results

Dave's Chili Ingredients

  • 2 pounds ground beef
  • 1 quart tomato juice
  • 1 can tomato puree (29 oz)
  • 1 can red beans, drained (15 oz.)
  • 1 1/2 cup chopped onions
  • 1/2 cup fresh diced celery
  • 1/4 cup diced green pepper
  • 1/4 cup chili powder
  • 2 teaspoons ground cumin
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper

 

Chili Directions

Brown the round beef in a large kettle with at least 6 quart capacity. Once browned, drain off the liquid fat. Add the remaining ingredients and stir.

Bring to a boil, then reduce to a slow simmer. Cover the pan and continue to cook for 1 hour or so, stirring every 15 minutes.
