Fossil Park
Tucked off of Centennial Road in Sylvania is a little park where you can hunt for your own fossils. Fossil Park is part of the Olander Park System. The well maintained park is open only on weekends, but admission is free. NO TOOLS OF ANY KIND ARE ALLOWED, but the good news is that you won't need them-- just bring something to put your finds into so they don't get lost.
The park is supervised and in the case of bad weather, it may be closed. Call 419-882-8313 ext. 23 if you think that weather may be an issue.
What might you find? Well, these are fossils from the Devonian period and come from Hanson Aggregate which is a large quarry that operates. Claims from folks digging through the crushed rocks to have found the much prized trilobite fossil.
